Dexter Inspired Blood Spatter Manicure

Well, hello everyone! Welcome to my entry for the Nail Polish Canada Halloween nail art challenge. We were invited to share our grotesque nails. Not that you have to, but I thought I would try. Please note that I am aware that the polish is on my fingers. I purposely left it there as I thought it looked more realistic that way.

This mani is inspired by the TV show Dexter. He loved to splatter blood on paper. And I was a big fan of the show. (until the final episode, don't even get me started)

Products used were Zoya Purity, Revlon Fire, and China Glaze Velvet Bow. And of course, some straws! I need to point out that my husband walked in while I was doing this. I think he thinks that I have now completely lost it. Although he did point out that it really did look like blood to him. I guess that is a complement!

Sorry for all the picks. The sun came out and I couldn't help myself. Quite happy with how these turned out. I admit, I am not the most creative, so when a mani turns out like I had hoped, I get pretty excited.
If you are interested in participating in this challenge, please visit Nail Polish Canada. The link will take you right to the contest page.
Thank you for the visit. I hope you liked it.

Tie Dye Nail Art with OPI Neons

This was such a fail. Thought I would share anyway. It was quite hot the day I did this. I think the polish was drying too quickly. Oh well. Live and learn, right?
The white base is Zoya Purity. The neons are OPI You Are So Outta Lime, Push & Pur-pull, Down To The Core-al.

Even though it didn't turn out the best, I think it still looks like tie dye! And I love any excuse to break out the neons! Thanks all for the visit. Hope to see you back soon.

Zoya Dahlia swatches

Dahlia is a PixieDust shade from Zoya. Personally Zoya makes my favourite textured polishes.

Dahlia is black with fine silver glitter. Opaque in two coats. No top coat, of course. Some of the PixieDusts do look good with top coat, but I prefer them without.

Being in Canada I have few options to purchase these. My go to is Nail Polish Canada. I sometimes can find them at Winners. How do you guys feel about textured polish. Is the fad done? I think they might stick around a bit longer. Also, just an FYI, I think the PixieDusts are great on toes! Try it out.

Happy Halloween nail art

Happy Halloween! Hope you all have a great day.

I couldn't decide what to do on my nails, so I did a little bit of everything! I'll give the rundown of all the colours used after the photos. I have to mention that I find it a lot harder to do nail art on nubbies. It's going to take me awhile to get used to.

Okay, polishes used are Seche Versatile and Silly But Sensible. Cult Nails Tempest and Nevermore, Zoya Mira. L.A. Colors art deco in Magenta and Mint Green. Top Coat is KBShimmer Clearly On Top.

I'm quite happy with these! The Frankenstein is my favourite. Thanks for stopping in. Wish you all a happy and safe Halloween.

Zoya Nail Polish Corals - Elodie, Myrta, and Destiny

Today I have three Zoya Polishes that are in the coral family. I will give you the official description from the Zoya site followed by my interpretation.  I am also including their opaqueness scale. 1-5,  1 = sheer and 5 = opaque.

Elodie is officially described as a "warm melon pink creme with a touch of coral". Also on the Zoya scale of opaqueness they score this a 5. Now I find the colour description accurate, but that is about it. My bottle, to me, is a sheer jelly. I am actually wondering if there was some sort of mislabeling incident? How do you go from an opaque creme to a sheer jelly? My photos are 3 coats of Elodie, and there is still significant vnl. My guess is I would have needed another 2 coats for full opacity. The vnl isn't that obvious in the pics, but it is in person.

Myrta is described as a "medium orange coral with red undertone, gold and silver metallic shimmer, and a foil like finish". Again, accurate. Opaque scale scored this a 5, which I would agree with this time! Photos shown are 2 coats with top coat. I'm not normally a big foil fan, but I quite like this one. No issues with streaking to report.

Destiny is a PixieDust shade. I know textured polish isn't everyone's thing, but I love the Pixie's! Officially called a "coral metal sparkle". Opaqueness 5. Pretty close. This has a ton of sparkle for a matte polish. I really like it. It does lean a bit orange. The first 2 pics are without top coat and the second 2 are with. I like it both ways! Most of the time with the PixieDusts I prefer it without top coat.

As I am in Canada, I purchase my Zoya products from Nail Polish Canada. If you are in the States, you can buy direct from Zoya. And I apologize, if you are anywhere else, I am not sure where to buy from.

Thanks everyone! Hope you all have a great weekend.

Zoya Kalista

Zoya Kalista is a warm brown with plum undertones and a golden shimmer. The first coat was all plum and turned brown as the coats progressed. I needed three coats for full coverage. Average drying time. Photos are with top coat.

This shade screams Fall to me. I truly love it! It even looked good on my newly shortened nails, yeah. What do you think of this?

Hardest Jelly Sandwich Ever!

Hey everyone! Glad to see you back.

Today I have a jelly sandwich using Zoya Paloma and Colores de Carol It's Raining Hearts! Paloma isn't new, but still one of my favourite jellies.
So why did I state that this was the hardest... the hearts would not cooperate. I flipped, shook, rolled, and no glitter!

I'm still happy with the final result, but after all the fishing and digging to get the glitter out of the bottle, I was ready to pull my hair out! Can't have that or I would have ruined the mani! Have you ever worked with a polish like that? Ugh.
Thanks for popping in and I hope you enjoyed!

Zoya Vespa

Zoya Vespa from the PixieDust collection. As I am sure you all know, these are Zoya's texture polishes. Zoya states that you don't need a base coat, but I always use one with these anyway.  I don't think it effects anything.  And of course to maintain the matteness and sparkle at the same time, you aren't supposed to use top coat.  Of course, this does leave your nails feeling gritty, and I do understand why some people don't like it.  Personally I find myself constantly rubbing a nail!   Photos are 3 coats of Vespa.

No top coat.

 With top coat.

I feel top coat changes the look quite a bit.  With Vespa I prefer it without top coat.  What do you think?

As I am in Canada, the only place I have been able to find Zoya is online at Nail Polish Canada.  In the United States I know you can get it directly from the Zoya website.  Worldwide, I am honestly not sure. Sorry about that.  Let me know where you get it from!
Thoughts on texture polishes?  I would love to hear from you. Cheers!

Essie Matte About You vs OPI Matte Top Coat

I picked up a bottle of the new OPI Matte top coat, so I thought I would do a quick comparison with Essie Matte About You. For the longest time Essie was the only matte I could find, and now there are a bunch on the market! This is good news. Every polish fiend needs a matte top coat!

You'll have to excuse my manicure. I've had it on for a few days and it's pretty beaten up, but it did the trick for this post. I am wearing Zoya Mira.

Essie Matte About You is shown on the index and ring finger.  OPI on middle and pinky.
Formula was the exact same to me. OPI smelled a tad bit stronger. Dry time was the same as well. To me they appear to do the same job. I have no reason to recommend one over the other. I like them both and would suggest getting whichever one is more easily found. I myself purchased both from Nail Polish Canada. To be honest, I am not sure the availability of these worldwide. You would have to do your own research on that yourself. You should own a matte top coat though!

Do you have a favourite matte top coat? I would love to hear what it is! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a great weekend!

Cheers

Day 3 pre-spring challenge green

I've made it to day 3. I know I haven't done any art yet, but I promise it is coming. If you want to call it art, that is.

Day 3 is green. I chose Zoya Gemma. I had a hard time choosing as greens are my favourite. I was going to stamp over this, but I love it so much on its own, that I couldn't bring myself to do it!

This challenge is being run by mommylovesnailpolish.com/ Be sure to check it out for all the details and to view other entries.
